Chagan was a closed city in Kazakhstan during the Soviet period. Before the collapse of the USSR it was a military base and home to around 10 - 11 thousand residents. It is now mostly abandoned.

Remains of military instalations, homes and other infrastructure are scattered across the landscape.
Much of Chagan has been the subject of looters who remove anything of value.
Even concrete can be sold and recycled meaning that year by year all evidence of Chagan is being whittled away.
